Stephen Earl May was born on June 22, 1951, in Ft. Worth, Texas. He passed away on August 2, 2026, in Topeka, Kansas.
Steve was the middle child to parents Earle and Mary Helen May. He was a preemie baby, born two months early and weighing only 2-3 pounds. It did not slow him down though and he grew to be over 6 feet.
After graduating from high school in Portales, New Mexico, Steve attended a computer training school in Kansas City long before computers became widely known. After completing the course, he received a draft notice, so he decided to enlist in the United States Army in 1971 and was shipped off to Vietnam where he was a cannoneer in field artillery.
After his return from war, Steve was a different man and began traveling around the United States, seeking answers to what he had just experienced. He embraced the Hippie lifestyle and loved to listen to Bob Dylan. His ambition was to write stories, and he made several attempts at writing about his thoughts on just about everything. Steve eventually landed in Kansas where he settled down with a wife and two stepdaughters, whom he referred to as his daughters. He also had a lifelong friend, Mark Dodge. He eventually got back into computers later in his life.
Steve is survived by his sisters, Linda Guidry and Mary Ann Banko; nephew Michael Smith; nieces Leslie Casey, Deborah Motes, and Jennifer Smith; and his two daughters, Anna Thezan and Regina Casto, and their children. He was very proud of his grandchildren.
