In Loving Memory of Ervin L. Jones
Ervin L. Jones was born on July 21, 1934, to Henry and Evelyn Jones in Friend, Kansas, now known as Garden City, Kansas. Ervin was raised as a farm boy, learning the values of hard work, determination, family, and perseverance at an early age.
As a young man, Ervin answered the call to serve his country. He was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served for four years during the Vietnam War. He was a Vietnam Veteran who carried the pride of his military service throughout his life.
Ervin was a hardworking man who was loved, supported, valued, and respected by many. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his concrete business, which he operated with the help of his beloved brother, Ernest. Through his work and his relationships with others, Ervin made an impact on many lives and earned the respect of those who knew him.
Beyond his work, Ervin had a special love for Soul and Blues music. Whenever his favorite songs came on, you could find him tapping his feet, snapping his fingers to the beat, and humming along to the sweet melodies. And if the music really moved him, Ervin wasn't afraid to get up and dance—or, as he would say, "cut a rug"—right there in the living room. He thought he was the stuff back then, and truthfully, he was! Those moments of music, laughter, and dancing are memories his loved ones will treasure forever.
Ervin leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Carolyn A. Jones, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, memories, and companionship. He also leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Ervin L. Jones and John Christopher Huggins; one daughter, Tammi Hysten; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, lovingly led by Marcus Jones. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and all those whose lives he touched along the way.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Evelyn Jones, and his siblings Ruth Skillens, Ernest Jones, Kenneth Jones, Burtin Jones, and Fern Jones.
Though Ervin has departed this earthly life, his memory will live on through the family he loved, the people he helped, the work he took pride in, the music he enjoyed, and the countless memories he created along the way.
His feet may no longer be tapping to the music, and his hands may no longer be snapping to the beat, but the rhythm of his life and the love he shared will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest peacefully, Ervin. Your work here is done, but your legacy lives on.
