Emile Sherrod, a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, and friend, passed away October 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on September 3, 1974, in Topeka, Kansas, Emile lived a life full of love, laughter, servitude and resilience.
Emile was the cherished son of Ernest Jr. and Margaret Sherrod-Henry, who survive him and continue to carry his spirit forward. He leaves behind his beloved son, Elijah Adams, who was the light of his life. Emile was also a treasured brother to Alicia, Ehren, and Sparkle Sherrod, and a devoted uncle to Korey, Josiah, and Adia Sherrod, as well as a host of great nieces, nephews and God-children (All important to him.) His amazing friends will forever remember him for his boundless energy and infectious joy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest Sr. and Voncil Sherrod, and Clinton and Florida McGuire, who surely welcomed him with open arms and loving hearts.
An alumni of Topeka High School, Emile furthered his education at Washburn University, where he cultivated a lifelong passion for entrepreneurship and leadership. He admired those who dreamed big and worked tirelessly towards their goals, and he embodied this spirit in his own pursuits.
Emile held many positions as a hard worker through the city of Topeka which fostered many meaningful relationships. His life of service began very young.
An event that sparked this flame for seeing others doing well happened years ago while on a family outing in Montgomery, Alabama. During this time with family and friends, one of our young lifetime friends wandered upon the water at a lake we were eating by. Emile and his brother saw the boy faced down in the water. Without hesitation, Emile leaped into the water to help. His brother Ehren ran to the adults calling for help after seeing both the boy and Emile go underwater. By the time everyone came to the spot where both boys had plummeted, Emile and the friend were climbing out onto the banks. He was always jumping into helping others without hesitation his entire life.
Emile was known for his deep love for family and friends, always taking the time to create meaningful memories with those he held dear. He was a true foodie. His gatherings were legendary, filled with laughter, good food, and endless stories shared around the table. His kitchen was not just a place to prepare meals, but a sanctuary where connections were forged and hearts were nourished.
A true sports enthusiast, his favorite teams were the Kansas City Royals and the Chiefs. His love for sports in general was a source of joy throughout his life, and he received his happiest moments when he could share in celebration with others.
Emile's legacy is one of love, joy, and lifting others up through serving, a testament to a life well-lived. He will be remembered for the warmth he brought into every room and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.
A celebration of Emile's life will be held on November 6, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Lake Shawnee Garden House, located at 3720 SE Yacht Court. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring the memory of a remarkable man who will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
